On a walk, I talked to M (J was listening :)) about God being creative with all the different colors and types of birds, flowers, and trees, etc. The variety is so much fun! I said He also was creative with making people look different with lots of different skin colors and that He calls us to love everyone because He made everyone.
Manna:
Use creation to point to God's creativity and love
In the midst of terrible and unthinkable events, I remember that God is Loving and Just. People - not so much all the time. The world is heavy with sorrow and mistakes - no one and no time in history is excluded. How to talk about this difficult topic with kids? To each his own judgment on what to reveal to kids (pray about it first!), but I encourage you to not shy away from it completely.
At the young age my kids are at, I want to make sure they still feel like they can trust all police. When they are older I pray for a trusting heart with discernment. Because everyone is capable of bad choices. Everyone is capable of perpetrating evil. I pray that my children's hearts be full of prayer and love for everyone they meet and for themselves. I pray they and I be so filled with the Holy Spirit that we be encouragers of understanding and repel intolerance and injustice everywhere we go. I'm excited for M and J to explore and learn about different races and meet many different kinds of people because we can learn about a piece of God through everyone we meet.
Lord,
I pray for us and our children to see all people like You see them. I pray we all learn something about You through each and every interaction we have.
I pray our children and their children seek You and bring about change for Your glory.
Amen.
